1. Introduction & General Privacy Philosophy

Welcome to CaseMapper. This privacy policy describes how CaseMapper ("we", "our", or "the App") collects, handles, stores, and protects your information. Your privacy is our core foundation. We are committed to transparency, security, and giving you absolute control over your geographic data.

CaseMapper is developed by Mohsin Khawaja, under the Center for Security & Information Behavior (CSIB) as a 100% offline-first GIS and map documentation utility.

2. Zero Server-Side Storage

Crucial Security Clause: CaseMapper does NOT host external databases, servers, or cloud synchronization services. No user data is stored on developer servers. All cases, map points, descriptions, coordinates, and photographs remain strictly stored locally on your physical device within the application's secure container database.

Because there is no cloud synchronization, you are in absolute and exclusive control of your data. The developer has no ability to view, share, recover, or access your local case logs.

3. Permissions We Use and Their Purpose

To enable its offline mapping functionalities, CaseMapper requests access to specific device capabilities. These permissions are restricted to the following purposes:

  • Location Permission (`ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION`, `ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION`): Used only for GPS mapping, locating the device on the map, and documenting spatial coordinates during field survey entries. We do not track your location in the background.
  • Camera Permission (`CAMERA`): Used only for capturing photos in-app to attach as visual evidence and reference to logged geographic points.
  • Internet Permission (`INTERNET`): Used solely for loading map tiles, checking for app updates, and serving Google AdMob advertisements.
  • Storage / Media Access (`READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE`, `WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE`): Used on compatible Android versions only when required to save and read your exported KMZ/KML files to/from your device's downloads folder.

4. Data Safety & Protection Standards

We comply strictly with data minimization principles:

  • No Sale of Data: We do not sell, rent, lease, or trade user data to any advertising networks, brokers, or third parties.
  • No Personal Information Sharing: We do not share any personal information with third parties, except for required third-party services integrated within the application for standard functionality (such as Google Play Services and Google AdMob).
  • Secure User-Generated Content: All user-generated content (case titles, description notes, and photos) is handled locally. Files are stored within the app's sandboxed filesystem directory, preventing other applications from accessing them without your permission.

5. Google AdMob & Third-Party Integration

To keep CaseMapper free to use while supporting developer maintenance, the App integrates the Google AdMob SDK. AdMob may process device identifiers, general location estimates, and usage metrics to serve context-appropriate, non-intrusive advertisements. These data operations are governed by Google's Privacy Policy. You can configure advertising choices directly through your Android system settings.
